Lee Spencer and Tony Viessman are the founders of “Rednecks for Obama” and are trying to get the word out for why Obama is redneck-friendly. I’ve read about them in a few articles now, but the one in the SF Chronicle explained some of the reasons they are supporting Obama.
“We are just trying to tell people that you don’t have to be afraid of Obama,” said Spencer, who has done everything from working as a laborer to selling real estate. “He’s not going to try to take away your guns, no matter what the NRA says.”
“Sometimes change is hard for people,” said Viessman, a retired highway patrol officer. “But I don’t care if you’re black or Oriental or green, if you can do the job. And he can do the job. He’s pretty near the smartest guy who’s ever run for president.”
Cultural wedge issues
In 2004, author Thomas Frank wrote in his bestselling book “What’s the Matter with Kansas?” that Republicans had convinced working-class whites to vote against their economic self-interest by appealing to them with cultural wedge issues like abortion, gay rights and gun laws.
Viessman’s neo-redneck take on that: “My dad used to say, ‘A poor man who votes for a Republican is a fool.’ “
I have another reason to vote for Obama - His wife shops at H & M!! (and she pays for her clothes with her own money)

Words ought to be a little wild, for they are the assaults of thoughts on the unthinking.

My friend Ravyn had this on her blog, and I thought it was awesome.
The word “co-pilot” always reminds me of this time I was driving in WV with a friend and we saw a bumper sticker that read, “God is my Co-Pilot” and my friend said to me, “If God was in my car, I think I’d let him drive.”

I often read a few mom-blogs from friends or friends of friends, and they sometimes have wonderful words of wisdom abut kids, being a mom, etc. I don’t know if I will ever reveal such wisdom about having a baby. However, I have learned two important lessons in the one full month of being a mom:
1 - do not eat garbanzo bean soup while breast feeding unless you enjoy being up until the god awful hours of the night with an unhappy and flatulent baby.
2 - no matter how bad your ______ (insert name of whatever body parts are aching from repeatedly moving the blob around) are aching, DO NOT use tiger balm unless, again, you enjoy being up all night with an unhappy, but less flatulent than in point 1, baby. This point has reminded me to return, slowly, to doing the yoga practice I developed to help stabilize and strengthen my shoulders.
I seem to now have baby-induced jet lag due to the lessons learned above. At the moment, everyone int he apartment is sleeping soundly, and my body seems to be wondering why there is no screaming baby in my arms.
I used my quiet time to add virtual furniture to my little model of the new apartment (thanks for the link to Google SketchUp Liz). it will be s nice to have a 30 square meter living room!! Just two more weeks until we move in. We can’t wait.

My uncle Tom forwarded a nice email today, and it had this quote in it:
‘Be kinder than necessary;
for everyone you meet is
fighting some kind of battle.’

Thanks to a typo a few posts ago, our ‘blob’ has been renamed ‘the beast,’ and the name suits her when she is screaming at 3:30 in the morning (which she did last night). I think this photo captures her beastness quite well.
In other news, we have the keys to our new place! Matthias started moving some things over there this weekend. We took a few measurements today so we can try to figure out how we will organize the furniture. I want to set up a little template on the computer that I can use to move around the peaces of furniture to experiment with different layouts. I don’t know what I can use to do that yet, but I’m sure I have something on my computer or I can find a free download somewhere.
Ugh, the beast calls….. this girl doesn’t like going to bed. Any new parents out there have any recommendations of books that can teach us how to establish good bedtime habits?
